£ód¼ is the dynamic centre of academic life. The city hosts 6 state, public universities, existing for over half a century: Uniwersytet £ódzki (The University of £ód¼), Politechnika £ódzka (The Technical University of £ód¼), Uniwersytet Medyczny (The Medical University of £ód¼), Akademia Muzyczna (The Academy of Music in £ód¼), Państwowa Wyæsza Szko³a Filmowa, Telewizyjna i Teatralna (The Polish Higher School of Film, Television and Theatre), Akademia Sztuk Piźknych (The Academy of Fine Arts). Moreover, 15 non-public universities have been established during the last 10 years, including Wyæsza Szko³a Humanistyczno - Ekonomiczna (The Academy of Humanities and Economics in £ód¼) - the largest in £ód¼ and one of the largest in Poland, thus increasing educational options open for the students.
Beside the outstanding academic personnel of the universities of £ód¼, there are also academics and researchers in the Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences and scientific institutes active in various sectors of economy like occupational health care, and textile, paper and leather industries. The number of students is steadily growing up, to reach presently 100,000 Polish and foreign students. |
